Hello, I’m Rowan

Arthouse Rowan is happy

Hello all, I’m Rowan.

I’m a writer. I write poetry, fiction and short-form non fiction.

I am also a trained counsellor. Although I believe that pain is inevitable part of life, I don’t think suffering is. I am really interested in small daily practices to bring wonder, joy and novelty into my life.

I have lived experience of mental health struggles. After a series of traumatic events, I was diagnosed with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and C-PTSD (complex post traumatic stress disorder). Because even when it comes to mental health, I am an overachiever.

I love sea swimming and junk journalling. Reading and watching extremely trashy television. I have started weight lifting and painting bad watercolours.

As a Virgo I am obsessed with ways to make my life easier, better and more fulfilling. I often set myself projects and write about the results.

I live in Hove, as close to the sea as I can get with my husband and two children

This blog is my teeny tiny boat on the vast sea of the internet. I started this blog in 2008 because I was bored at work. Over time it’s metamorphosed into part therapy/part record of the important moments in my life from my wedding, to losing my best friend, from giving up my day job, to struggling with infertility.

    1. Thanks Eliza, for visiting my blog and your kind words. I’m loving this journey towards marriage and I’m glad you find it interesting.I’m just reading through your blog now and your writing is so joyous

  1. Hello, Rowan. I read some of your posts. I find them so funny! I am a Filipino and I write for a living. If you have published books, kindly tell me so, I’ll try to find one and borrow it hahahaha! really, I’ll buy your book.

I came across your blog because I am also planning a book-themed wedding for my fiance. Ours will be on 2-14-2014. Here in the Philippines, Catholic weddings can only be held in churches. So I can’t hold mine in a library. But the wedding reception will be (I really hope it will happen) at the National Printing Office that houses the Office of the National Book Development Board. My fiance told me it’s too far. It’s about an hour’s drive (traffic included) from the church. That’s the only con about that venue. Ugh!

    1. Hello Beverly, thanks so much for the comment and for reading my blog. One of my best friends from University is from the Philippines too. Good luck planning your book themed wedding and I hope you can get married at the National Printing Office. I googled it, so cool. Let me know how everything goes,

      Rowan xxx
